Γιάννης Σακέλλης (εικαστικός)
Γεννήθηκε στη Πάφο το 1983. Σπούδασε καλές τέχνες στην Ακαδημία Καλών Τεχνών «Pietro Vannucci» στην Περούτζια της Ιταλίας από όπου αποφοίτησε το 2007. Το 2006 έλαβε το βραβείο «Adelmo Maribelli» από την ίδια σχολή για την συνολική επίδοση του κατά το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2005.

Τα επόμενα χρόνια, το έργο του παρουσιάστηκε σε 3 ατομικές εκθέσεις στην Κύπρο: «Οπτικές ίνες» (2009), «Η θεωρία των χορδών» (2009) και «The Observed and the Observer» (2010), ενώ συμμετείχε σε πολλές ομαδικές εκθέσεις όπως: «2η Διεθνής Μπιενάλε της Μολδαβίας» (2011), «Initinere» (2007), στο αρχαιολογικό κέντρο της Περούτζια στην Ιταλία, «Catharsis/Rebirth» (2012), στα αρχαία οθωμανικά λουτρά στην Πάφο (η εν λόγω έκθεση διοργανώθηκε σε συνεργασία με το Ίδρυμα Τεχνών «Cittadellarte» του Ιταλού καλλιτέχνη Michalangelo Pistoletto, και, αργότερα, μέσα στο 2013, ένα βίντεο ντοκιμαντέρ αυτής της έκθεσης παρουσιάστηκε στο Μουσείο του Λούβρου, κατά τη διάρκεια της ατομικής έκθεσης του ίδιου του Pistoletto, υπό τον τίτλο “Year One-The Paradise on Earth»). Κατόπιν, ο Γιάννης Σακέλλης έλαβε μέρος στις εξής εκθέσεις: «Othello/Rebirth» (2013), μια έκθεση σύγχρονης τέχνης στο εγκαταλελειμμένο σινεμά «Οθελλος» στην Πάφο, την «Insite» (2012), μια έκθεσή στο αρχαιολογικό πάρκο της Πάφου, στα πλαίσια της Κυπριακής Προεδρίας της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, την “StreetArt Square” (2015), ένα φεστιβάλ «γκράφιτι» (street art), το οποίο εντάχθηκε στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος «ΠΑΦΟΣ2017- Πολιτιστική Πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης». Επιπλέον, συμμετείχε στην έκθεση «50 χρόνια εικαστικής δημιουργίας» (2010), μια εκδήλωση για τον εορτασμό των 50 χρόνων της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, στο “The Fine Art Film Festival» (2015) στην πόλη Βένις, στην Καλιφόρνια των Η.Π.Α., ένα φεστιβάλ ταινιών που αφορούν αποκλειστικά τις καλές τέχνες όπου συμμετείχε με το βίντεο “The Box”. Τέλος, έλαβε μέρος σε μια σειρά από άλλες ομαδικές εκθέσεις, όπως: «Risonanze», «Trame», «Luoghi», «Instantanea» (στην Ιταλία), και «WindowArt», «All Colours», «ECOinsite», «Αθλητισμός», «Εικόνες από την Πάφο», «50 χρόνια ΕΚΑΤΕ», «Εικαστική Πάφος», «Πλούσια τέχνη και φτωχούς καιρούς», κ.ά.

Ταυτόχρονα, έχει αναλάβει την επιμέλεια (curating) για πολλές καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις, όπως η «WindowArt» (2012), μια έκθεση στα εγκαταλελειμμένα καταστήματα του παλαιού εμπορικού κέντρου της Πάφου, την «Catharsis/Rebirth», την «Othello/Rebirth», την «‘StreetArt Square», τα «Αφιερώματα-Κώστας Οικονόμου» (2013), μια αναδρομική έκθεση για τον Κύπριο καλλιτέχνη Κώστα Οικονόμου, καθώς και τα «50 χρόνια Ε.ΚΑ.ΤΕ.» (2014), μια έκθεση για τον εορτασμό των 50 ετών του Επιμελητήριου Καλών Τεχνών Κύπρου.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια διδάσκει τέχνη στην Πάφο, κατά το διάστημα 2010-2013 στο ιδιωτικό σχολείο μέσης εκπαίδευσης «American Academy», κατά το διάστημα 2009-2014 στο τοπικό κέντρο νεολαίας του Οργανισμού Νεολαίας Κύπρου και στο Κέντρο Τεχνών Κίμωνος.

Από το 2015 εργάζεται ως συντονιστής εκδηλώσεων στον Οργανισμό Πολιτιστική Πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης ΠΑΦΟΣ2017. 

 

Yiannis Sakellis (visaul artist)
Yiannis Sakellis was born in Paphos, Cyprus in 1983. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts “Pietro Vannucci” in Perugia, Italy where he graduated in 2007 with honours. In 2006 he received the annual “Adelmo Maribelli“ Prize, from the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia.

He achieved 3 personal exhibitions in Cyprus: “Fiber Optics” (2009), “The Theory of Strings” (2009), “The Observed and the Observer” (2010), and he participated in various exhibitions, both in Cyprus and internationally, such as: The 2nd International Painting Biennale of Chisinau in Republic of Moldova (2011), “Initinere” (2007) in the Historic Centre of Perugia, Italy, “Insite” (2012), a site specific exhibition in the archaeological park of Paphos, and the official program for the Cypriot Presidency of the E.U. 50 years of Artistic Creation, (2010) for the celebration of the 50 years of the Republic of Cyprus. He also participated in the “Catharsis/Rebirth” (2012) which took place in the old Turkish Baths in Paphos, in collaboration with the “Cittadellarte” Foundation of Biella, Italy – in 2013. A video documentary of this exhibition was presented in the Louvre Museum as part of the personal exhibition of Michelangelo Pistoletto “Year One-The Paradise on Earth”. The participations in exhibitions continued with “Othello/Rebirth” (2013), a contemporary art show in the abandon cinema “Othellos” in Paphos, “StreetArt Square”, (2015), a street art event which was part of the Official Programme of “Pafos2017 European Capital of Culture”, “The Fine Art Film Festival” (2015), in Venice, California, which was a film festival focused on fine art films (Sakellis participated with the film “The Box”), and various other exhibitions such as: “Risonanze”, “Trame”, “Luoghi”, “Instantanea” (in Italy), and “WindowArt”, “All Colours”, “ECOinsite”, “Athletics”, “Images from Paphos”, “50 years of E.KA.TE.”, “Visual Paphos”, “Lush Art in Austere Times” etc.

In addition he curated various art projects such as the “WindowArt” (2012), which was an art show in the abandoned shops of the old market of Paphos’ historical centre, “Catharsis/Rebirth”, “Othello/Rebirth”, “StreetArt Square”, and “AFIEROMATA - Costas Oikonomou” (2013), which was a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the artist Costas Oikonomou, as well as the “50 years of E.KA.TE” (2014) for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts.

Along with his creative work, Sakellis is currently teaching art: at the private school “American Academy” for 3 years (2010-2013), at the State Youth Centre of Paphos for 5 years (2009-2014), and at his Private Studio since 2008.

Since 2015 he has been working as an event coordinator for the European Capital of Culture PAFOS2017.
